HEYBRIDGE manager Jody Brown says the friendlies with Basildon United and Southend Manor this week have allowed him make useful decisions about who will remain a part of his squad.
Swifts drew 2-2 at the Bees on Saturday in their pre-season opener, with two goals from summer signing Luke Callander.
Heybridge gave trials to six Spanish and two Argentinean players and also featured a number of their promising youth players (action from that match is pictured above).
On Tuesday, Bostik North side Heybridge also faced another Essex Senior League side at Southchurch Park.
Swifts used 19 players in a game they won 6-2 with two goals from Ryan Henshaw, one a belter from distance, along with strikes from Callander, Harrison Chatting, Joshua Fagbohun and Marley Andrews.
Exciting winger Sam Bantick also got his first game time for Swifts since his return to Scraley Road this summer.
Brown said: “It was very important to get minutes into everyone and most played 90 minutes, spread over the two games.
“We looked at 25 players and made decisions on a couple that we hadn’t already.
“We created lots of chances over the two games but – as you’d expect with up to ten changes at half time – our defensive organisation is nowhere near where we hope it will be a month from now.”
Swifts return to action this Saturday (July 15) away to a Barnet XI side in a match which will kick off at 10am.
