JODY BROWN felt Swifts’ 3-3 with emerging non league powerhouse Billericay in midweek shows some of his players are finding their feet nicely ahead of the start of the season.
A double from Reece Grant and a goal from Harry Morgan earned Heybridge a draw on Tuesday against a Town side whose formidable pre-season form has done little to dampen widespread belief they will win the Bostik Premier next season.
Swifts continued preparations for their Bostik North campaign the following night when a side featuring trialists beat Essex & Suffolk Boarder side White Notley 3-1. Swifts scored through Grant, George Smith and an own goal.
But Heybridge manager Brown felt it was the clash against Glenn Tamplin’s all-star Billericay which really gave him positive food for thought from his new-look Swifts squad.
He said: “It was important for us to have a game where we would be tested tactically and you can learn a lot about players when you haven’t got the ball.
“It was a great test and it was pleasing to see one or two players really starting to look ready.
“Billericay were missing three or four players admittedly, but they were still very strong.
“If they get their preparation right it is pretty clear they won’t be losing too many games in the coming season.”
Heybridge will continue their pre-season programme with a trip to Bostick South side Herne Bay tomorrow (July 29).
