HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS hosted a successful new project this summer aimed at giving young footballers from overseas a taste of the English game.
The England The Chance initiative, set up by Swifts defender Guillem Ramon in February 2017, saw a group of 21 players from Spain, Andorra and Argentina spend a week with the Bostik North club between July 2-9.
They took part in training with Jody Brown’s squad and forwards Joan Luque, 25, and Toni Paredes, 17, midfielders Galo Jacomy, 18, and Elias Siligato, 26, defender Pablo Pena, 19, and goalkeeper Alex Luque, 19, all got game time in a pre-season friendly at Basildon United on July 8.
Both Luques and Siligato are still training with the first team and it is hoped others will continue to work with the Development Squad this summer.
Ramon said: “The aim is to give a chance to players from all over the world and to help introduce them to English clubs.
“The next step for me is to help them get settled here with jobs and accommodation and I hope they can make the most of the opportunity.”
