FA Cup Factfile – Swifts v Met Police

Previous Meetings and a former Swifts in their ranks.

We have met Met Police just twice – this was during the 1990/91 Vauxhall Opel League division One season. We made our only previous visit to Imber Court on Tues 18 Sept 1990 when we won 2-0 with goals from Steve Legge (2m) and Julian Lamb (24m). The return fixture saw us host Met Police on Tues 9 April 1991 when we drew 1-1 – we led through a 10th minute goal by Micky Hall but the visitors levelled in the 80th minute.

That season saw Met Police relegated to Division Two, whilst Swifts stayed up with a last day 2-0 win at Southwick – with a minute left we led 1-0 and the home side hit the bar before we broke to score a second in injury time. A draw of defeat would have seen Southwick stay up at our expense!

In terms of player links, Met Police currently have Gavin MacPherson as their Assistant Manager. He was one of several Barnet loan players (when Garry Hill was Manager) that played in our game away at Whyteleafe on 14th March 1992 – he scored on debut for us after just three minutes in a 3-1 win – another debut maker that day was Peter Cawley (father of current Swifts player Jack). Gavin made 10 appearances (scoring three times) in the 1991/92 season. Gavin returned in February 1993 scoring on his return at Uxbridge, making a total of seven appearances (scoring twice) that season.

Met Police have reached the 1st Round Proper on several occasions – 1931/32 (A) Northampton Town 0-9, 1984/85 (H) Dartford 0-3, 1993/94 (H) Crawley Town 0-2 and 2012/13 (H) Crawley Town 1-2.
