FORMER Colchester United midfielder Karl Duguid has been brought in as assistant manager at Heybridge Swifts.
Duguid (pictured), 40, who was also U’s and Plymouth Argyle captain throughout his playing career, worked as a coach at Colchester under then manager Joe Dunne, and was most recently No 2 at Stanway Rovers.
Swifts manager Jody Brown, who had Duguid as a player when he was boss at Welling, said: “With Mark Ashford moving on to become the Witham manager and Adam Bailey-Dennis progressing his rehab on the field, it was important to bring in some support.
“It has to be the right calibre of person and the right calibre of coach – or I’d just do it myself.
“Karl has been a leader on the field everywhere he’s been and he now has three or four years of good relevant coaching experience.
“Like most professionals nowadays he has done his badges so he brings knowledge and qualifications, along with his irreplaceable Football League experience.
“We want to compete on all fronts again and we know how hard it’s going to be with the level of competition and financial power in our division.
“But if you’ve spent any time with Karl Duguid, you’ll know he’s competitive, he’s a winner and will add great value to our club.”
