IN A NUTSHELL: Swifts gained a valuable point in a hard-fought derby at a cold Spa Road. It was a scrappy affair on a bumpy pitch with late missed chances from both sides in front of a noisy Friday night crowd. Witham featured two former Swifts in Elias Siligato and Alejandro Seone and are managed by former Swifts coach Mark Ashford.

KEY ACTION: The hosts took the lead on 19 minutes when Chris Haigh’s punch was blocked and the resulting shot across goal was forced home on the line by Andrew Tirivanhu. Swifts responded well and were rewarded on 25 minutes when Dan Walker fed Guillem Ramon and his superb right-wing cross was headed home spectacularly at the far post by a flying Harrison Chatting to keep up his excellent recent scoring record. At 1-1 at half time the fans expected a lively second half but it proved to be a scrappy affair with neither side dominating. It was a game in which some strange decisions by the officials and many free kicks meant the game rarely flowed. Both sides missed good chances late on so a draw was probably the right result.
