IN A NUTSHELL: Swifts lost to a youthful Maldon side on a chilly night at Scraley Road. Both sides used young players where possible and it made for a high tempo affair and a good workout. The competition is a traditional charity invitational event to raise money for the Essex County FA Benevolent Fund

KEY ACTION: Swifts striker Matt Price had three early left-foot chances, one of which came back off the inside of the post. Maldon looked lively on the break and should have taken the lead when dangerous winger Kojo Awotwi squared for Decarrey Sheriff to fire just wide. The Jammers took the lead early in the second half with a cool close range finish from Awotwi. But the hosts were soon level when Price scored a penalty after he was brought down following a goal kick being intercepted. The winner was a great finish from Sheriff after he had beaten the offside trap. Swifts centre back Jayden Randell was sent off for a last man foul which was spotted by the linesman and not the referee, and Maldon’s defence stood firm to earn the win.
