DATE: Saturday, December 15, 2018

IN A NUTSHELL: Swifts secured another valuable three points with a comfortable win over Romford in challenging weather conditions. It was a game sealed with first Swifts goals from Jack Adlington-Pile and Elliot Ronto. It was a good set-up for crunch clashes against promotion-rivals Maldon, Coggeshall and Bowers over the festive period.

KEY ACTION: The visitors took a 21st- minute lead when Jack Adlington-Pile broke into the Romford box and was bought down. Skipper and top scorer Matt Price sent Harry Aldridge the wrong way with his penalty. But Swifts were punished for not taking advantage of good chances when Boro levelled as Reece Hewitt’s long range shot found the bottom corner. Swifts regained the lead on the stroke of half time when Dan Walker’s cross found Harrison Chatting, who tapped it home. Price scored a strange third juts after the hour with an effort which was assisted by the awful weather conditions! Romford’s Thomas Potter was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 73rd minute. Heybridge added a fourth goal when Adlington-Pile (pictured above by Alan Edmonds) brilliantly slotted the ball home under the onrushing keeper. Elliot Ronto scored the fifth when Aldridge let the ball slip from his grasp.

SWIFTS STAR MAN: Jack Adlington-Pile. The former Basildon United man capped a fine performance with a great goal.

NEXT MATCH: Maldon & Tiptree (home), Bostik North, Boxing Day, Wednesday, December 26, 3pm KO.
