SWIFTS defender Guillem Ramón Carreño believes a win at Canvey on Saturday will send out the message they have not given up on a serious crack at the Bostik North title.
Swifts are second after a battling 1-0 derby win over Witham on a foggy Friday night at the Aspen Waite Arena.
But the relentlessly good form of leaders Bowers means the Pitsea side hold a commanding 11-point advantage over their rivals heading into the final ten games of the season.
Canvey, in ninth, won 1-0 at Romford on Sunday, but the Gulls lost 2-1 on their visit to Scraley Road in November.
Before that Boro win, Mark Bentley’s side had slipped off the play-off pace after four straight defeats, but Guillem (pictured by Alan Edmonds) is not underestimating the task at Park Lane.
The Spaniard told this week’s #SwiftsCast: “This weekend will be massive for us because it is a big test against a team which is physically strong and usually gets the job done.
“They are not particularly high in the league this year but you always trust that they can be.
“But we just need to get back to our basics, keep the ball, be sharp, play with purpose in our attacks.
“And I think if we can win this game with only nine games left afterwards, that will send out a strong message to everyone that we want to finish as high as possible.”
