SWIFTS will host YouTube sensation and upwardly mobile Hashtag United in an attractive friendly during next week’s school half-term break.

Hashtag are managed by respected former East Thurrock coach Jay Devereux and sit top of strong Step 6 Eastern Counties Division One South table.

Their stated aim is to make it as far up the football pyramid as possible.

But it is as much the North London club’s achievements off the pitch as on it that have captured the public’s imagination.

Hashtag United was formed in 2016 by YouTuber (and big West Ham fan) Spencer Owen and have an eye-watering 432,847 subscribers to the club’s YouTube channel.

The Tags have average home league crowds of 140 at Coles Park and have had as many as 470. They have also attracted big turnouts for friendlies with Tilbury (329) and Great Wakering (430), and once turned out in front of 34,000 at Wembley!

The game with Heybridge will also bring some familiar faces back to Scraley Road as the Hashtag’s quality squad features former Swifts Ricky Evans, Neil Richmond and Hussein Isa.

Swifts chairman Gary White said: “Spencer and his family are all avid Hammers fans so I’m sure he will be looking forward to his side facing a team managed by our West Ham legend Julian Dicks.

“We hope it is a game which will capture the imagination of our local community and, of course, that it attracts some newcomers to sample the warm welcome on offer at the Aspen Waite Arena.”

It is a 7.45pm kick-off at the Aspen Waite Arena on Tuesday, February 19, and entry will cost £5 with under-12s admitted free.
