IN A NUTSHELL: Swifts retained second place with a gritty win on Canvey Island. It was a victory secured despite a disputed late dismissal for Swifts defender Joe Claridge in the aftermath of the Gulls pulling a goal back. The result left Heybridge in second and still 11 point behind Bowers, who came from behind to win at Mildenhall.

KEY ACTION: It was a quiet opening 30 minutes before Elliott Ronto headed just over the bar from close range for the visitors. And Swifts finally got the breakthrough early in the second half when Ronto finished brilliantly with a half-volley from outside the box. Just after the hour mark they doubled their lead when birthday boy Matt Price headed home Guillem Ramon’s excellent cross (that goal is pictured by Alan Edmonds). Harrison Chatting missed a big chance against his former side to add a third soon after before Canvey pulled a goal back with a Martin Tuohy header to set up an exciting finish. The goal also led to a red card for Swifts defender Joe Claridge, who was dismissed for an apparent clash with Gulls player Kane Gilbert before the restart after the goal. But Julian Dicks’ side held their nerve to claim another impressive Bostik North away win.

SWIFTS STAR MAN: Guillem Ramon. The Spanish full-back was excellent at both ends of the pitch.

INJURY CONCERNS: None.

ENTERTAINMENT VALUE: 6/10
