A SWIFTS girls team kicked off their summer at a tournament organised by Thurrock Community Policing Team and the KickOff@3 youth engagement project.
The seven-a-side event took place on Saturday (May 18) at the Lakeside Sports Ground and Swifts were in the 15-16 year-olds age group.
Swifts produced some great football to reach the last four where they lost 8-7 on penalties to Eastern Junior Alliance team boys side after the match had ended 0-0. They had previously emerged from a four-team group stage and comfortably won their semi-final.
The event was aimed at highlighting the work of the Only Cowards Carry charity, which aims to raise awareness of the dangers and consequences of carrying a weapon.
Swifts girls are now hoping to play in further tournaments in June in Kent and Sussex.
