RESULT: Grays Athletic 0-1 Heybridge Swifts

COMPETITION: Bostik North

DATE: Saturday, December 1, 2018

VENUE: Parkside

ATTENDANCE: 276

SCORERS (MINUTE): Matt Price (26)

IN A NUTSHELL: Swifts fought hard to claim an excellent victory at in-form Grays in a feisty encounter at Parkside. A gritty defensive display showed the strength and character manager Julian Dicks has brought to the side with seven wins from his nine games since arriving two months ago. And it moved Swifts back into the play-off places. Dicks was rightly pleased with the resilience and discipline shown by his young side against his former club. Central defensive pairing Toib Adeyemi and Luke Wilson (pictured above by Alan Edmonds) were immense and midfielder Jack Adlington once again looked impressive alongside Chatting and Spanish midfielder Odei Martin.

KEY ACTION: Swifts took the lead against the run of play when an excellent run and one-two by the ever lively Harrison Chatting saw his through ball slipped past home keeper by Matt Price on 26 minutes. Grays hit the post from a fine run and shot by winger Joao Carlos, who was making his 350th appearance for the club. The game started to get niggly with former Swifts men Alberto Pinto and Michael Toner involved in strong but fair tackles before Pinto was sent off for an off the ball incident spotted by the linesman just before the beak. In the second half neither team really created any clear chances with opposing central defenders dominating but Grays broke through in the dying moments only for Chris Haigh to save well once more.

SWIFTS STAR MAN: Luke Wilson. The experienced centre-half was key in another clean sheet.

SWIFTS DEBUTS: None.

MATCH REPORT: Swifts surrender lead at Brentwood and exit county cup

RESULT: Brentwood Town 2-1 Heybridge Swifts

COMPETITION: Essex Senior Cup, Rnd 4

DATE: Tuesday, November 27, 2018

VENUE: Brentwood Centre Arena

ATTENDANCE: 105

SCORERS (MINUTE): Albert Levett (53) Quba Gordon (67) / Dan Walker (11)

IN A NUTSHELL: An under-strength Swifts side slipped to a defeat after a disappointing second-half display saw them throw away a 1-0 half-time lead.

KEY ACTION: Swifts then took the lead on 11 minutes with their first real attack when Dan Walker lobbed keeper James Pellin. The second half started off slowly in heavy rain before Brentwood equalised when Albert Levett headed home from close range. The Blues’ second and eventual winner on 67 minutes came from a free kick by Quba Gordon that went straight through every player and into the net. Swifts dominated possession late on without really threatening the home goal and exited a competition they reached the final of in 2015.

SWIFTS STAR MAN: Jayden Randell. The Swifts debutant produced a solid performance at centre-half.

SWIFTS DEBUTS: Jayden Randell.

MATCH REPORT: Two Matt finishes seal terrific win over a strong Barking outfit

RESULT: Heybridge Swifts 2-0 Barking

COMPETITION: Bostik North

DATE: Saturday, November 24, 2018

VENUE: Aspen Waite Arena

ATTENDANCE: 258

SCORERS (MINUTE): Matt Price (25, 68)

IN A NUTSHELL: Lots of positives as new recruit Luke Wilson starred in the heart of a defensive unit which was in great form, Matt Price did what Matt Price does with a deadly double, and Charlie Kendall made a promising debut off the bench for Swifts.

KEY ACTION: It was a quiet start before Swifts striker Dan Walker missed two big chances. But the hosts did not have to wait long as Matt Price brilliantly slotted the ball home with his left foot for the opener. It was almost 2-0 when Guillem Ramon’s excellent cross just evaded Walker. And the hosts doubled their lead mid-way through the second half when Price (pictured by Alan Edmonds) smashed another shot home. Swifts debutant Charlie Kendall, a 70th-minute sub, hit the crossbar with a great header, and soon after Elliot Ronto’s shot was saved well by Blues keeper Tim Brown.

SWIFTS STAR MAN: Matt Price. Two nice finishes from the striker proved the difference on the day.

SWIFTS DEBUTS: Charlie Kendall.

MATCH REPORT: Ten-man Swifts lose unbeaten record at Burroughs Park

RESULT: Great Wakering 3-2 Heybridge Swifts

COMPETITION: Bostik North

DATE: Saturday, November 17, 2018

VENUE: Burroughs Park

ATTENDANCE: 237

SCORERS (MINUTE): Jake Gordon (8 pen, 49)
Billy Johnson (33) / Odei Martin-Sorondo (15), Kreshnic Krasniqi (82)

IN A NUTSHELL: Swifts suffered a first defeat under Julian Dicks in a tight match at Burroughs Park. The visitors took issue with several decisions from the officials but it was also an off-day for a Heybridge team which has been in terrific form.

KEY ACTION: It was a quiet start before Swifts defender Alieu Njie conceded a penalty which was converted by Jake Gordon. Kreshnic Krasniqi and Dan Walker went close for the visitors before they drew level when Krasniqi delivered a great cross which was headed home by Odei Martin. Skipper Krasniqi (pictured above by Alan Edmonds) then had the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled out for a debatable offside. Wakering regained their lead when Billy Johnson headed home and added a third soon after the restart when Gordon took advantage of poor Swifts defending. Hopes of a comeback were dented further when Swifts striker Matt Price was sent off in the 75th minute for an alleged kick. And although Krasniqi headed home a late corner to give Swifts a chance, Rovers held on.

SWIFTS STAR MAN: Odei Martin. The Spaniard stood out on a day when the team was far from its best.

SWIFTS DEBUTS: Jordy Mongoy.
